Portrait of Science Fiction and Fantasy Author Larry Niven by Greg Preston

Happy 82nd Birthday to Science Fiction and Fantasy Author Larry Niven, April 30th, That's Today!

Good morning campers, how's everybody doing? Good I hope! Just wanted to wish Author Larry Niven a Happy 82nd Birthday today, April 30th! As I am sure you know Larry Niven is a Science Fiction and Fantasy novelist. "His best-known works include the legendary Ringworld Series , which received Hugo, Locus, Ditmar, and Nebula awards, and "which THE ENCYCLOPEDIA OF SCIENCE FICTION called the most energetic future history series ever written", and, with writer Jerry Pournelle, The Mote in God's Eye and Lucifer's Hammer. The Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America named him the 2015 recipient of the Damon Knight Memorial Grand Master Award.

"His work is primarily hard science fiction, using big science concepts and theoretical physics. It also often includes elements of detective fiction and adventure stories. His fantasy includes the series "The Magic Goes Away", rational fantasy dealing with magic as a non-renewable resource."-(with help from wikipedia and fantastic fiction.)

This portrait was one of my early "Pop-up" studio portraits, taken at a Science Fiction Convention in Anaheim a number of years ago."

If you haven't had the pleasure, you should track down a few of his books and see what the hubbub is all about, I think you will love them.

a nice quote: The reader has certain rights. He bought your story. Think of this as an implicit contract. He's entitled to be entertained, instructed, amused; maybe all three. If he quits in the middle, or puts the book down feeling his time has been wasted, you're in violation.-Larry Niven
