Remembering Amazing Comic Book Artist Al Williamson on his Birthday, March 21, 1931 – June 12, 2010

Remembering Amazing Comic Book Artist/ Illustrator Al Williamson on His Birthday, (March 21, 1931 – June 12, 2010!) "Williamson’s professional credits are both legion and legendary. Developing an elegantly illustrative cartooning style, he first came to prominence with the highly influential EC comics line of the 1950s. His much beloved work in the mid-’60s on King Features Flash Gordon comic book series garnered him a “Best Comic Book Cartoonist” award from the prestigious National Cartoonist Society. He drew the daily comic strip Secret Agent Corrigan from 1967 until 1980, and then jumped to the Star Wars strip for another three years."-from the Flesk publishing website.

An Amazing Artist! I actually had a photo of Al in both "Artist Within" books.

One of the highlights of working on the project was standing with Al in his living room in front of Hal Fosters amazing original Prince Valiant illustration of "the Bridge"(4th photo) and listening to him talk about how he saved several original Hal Foster pages from the dumpster. He also had several originals by Fortunino Matania, (another incredible artist) he would wave his arm with a flourish and shout "Matania" and then tell us all about him, and it really was magical!"

Before we left, Al went into another room and brought out several original "Agent Corrigan" strips and had us pick out one each to take as gift, ( third photo),

just a sweet and generous man, he is missed.
