Comic Book Artist Creig Flessel

Remembering Comic Book Artist/ Illustrator Creig Flessel (February 2, 1912-July 17, 2008)

Good Monday Morning People! I wanted to take a moment and remember another February Artist Birthday, Happy Birthday to Comic Book Artist/ Illustrator Creig Flessel (February 2, 1912-July 17, 2008). Flessel, besides being one of the Original Comic Book Artists in the industry, was also an accomplished Cartoonist and illustrator for magazines ranging from Boys' Life to Playboy, but he is best remembered for his comic book work at National/DC.

His work was present in the earliest issues of Detective Comics (before 'Batman'), and he also illustrated most of the early covers. Later he worked on the original 'Sandman' and 'The Shining Knight' for Adventure Comics, and is credited as the creator of features like 'Speed Saunders', 'Hank the Cowhand', 'The Bradley Boys' and 'Pep Morgan'. I was honored to be able to photograph Creig in his studio in Northern California for "The Artist Within" book 1. Here's that shot.

Both Artist Within books are available from The Sideshow Collectibles website!

Have a great week!
