I have a fond memory of making a snowy day in January trip up to Grants Pass, Oregon to meet and photograph Carl in his studio. We spent a good part of the day on a lovely visit and made this portrait. For those of you who don't know Carl's work, I'm guessing there might be one or two, Carl was a "cartoonist, author, and painter. He is best known for his work in Disney comic books, as the writer and artist of the first Donald Duck stories and as the creator of Scrooge McDuck". He worked anonymously until late in his career; fans dubbed him The Duck Man and The Good Duck Artist. In 1987, Barks was one of the three inaugural inductees of the Will Eisner Comic Book Hall of Fame." Yes, that Carl Barks!
"Barks worked for the Disney Studio and Western Publishing where he created Duckburg and many of its inhabitants, such as Scrooge McDuck, Gladstone Gander, the Beagle Boys , The Junior Woodchucks , Gyro Gearloose, Cornelius Coot, John D. Rockerduck and Magica De Spell. Will Eisner called him "the Hans Christian Andersen of comic books." -wikipedia
I was pleased to include 2 different portraits of Carl in my project, one in each book.
